Done with my paper!

Alex @ March 24, 2007 | | Education, Personal |

Hahaha! Take that you term paper, you!

After three days of toil, I finally have a term paper to hand in before my professor gives me a grade of “Incomplete.” I still have to proofread it (unlike this trashy blog :p) three more times but at least the writing’s done. To give you an idea of what’s it about, it’s on blogging, specifically, a cursory look on the Pinoy blogosphere and possible subjects a critical discourse analysis.

I don’t want to post the paper online since it may as well be my masters thesis proposal (and I still have yet to get my professor’s opinion/grade before I pursue it full-blown). But top give you a glimpse I’m posting a couple of paragraphs from the conclusions.

As far as the creation of a collective identity through language is concerned, the Philippine blogosphere is a domain of the English-speaking elite. And in the rise of Web 2.0, the blogosphere even serves as the world’s window to the country. To push the thought even further, bloggers seem to be the new age comprador intelligentsia - what according to K.A. Appiah is “a relatively small group of writers and thinkers in the Western style and formed the Western way, who are intermediaries in the trade of cultural products from the capitalist world to the periphery” (114). Surely there may be contentions to the “formed in the Western style and way” part but the Internet and the Web are undoubtedly, Western creations. This may even well define the postcolonial condition of the Philippines in the Internet Age.

As Philippine bloggers write to be read by peers and a greater global audience, it may be beneficial to observe whether the representations made by the bloggers in their writing do justice to real-world occurrences and be valid chronicles of the Filipino people.

I know that the thoughts will come off as hasty without the supporting discussion. :p Any thoughts?

So that’s that for now. I won’t probably be enrolling this summer since I think I’d like a vacation before hellfire and brimstone rains in June. That means I’ll have a blogging summer to enjoy - LifeSpy, Sugoi Stuff, and The Construct here I come! Oh yeah, and perhaps hit the beach!

I wonder how other students like me are faring with their papers as the sem ends….

I think the proper term pala is “O tsukare sama deshita!” :D

Btw, clarify that it’s CDA, ‘kay? We wouldn’t want a round two of you-know-what. Tsk!
