About the Blog
A construct is an abstract concept, an idea. A complex whole made up of parts.
The Construct is a virtual space where there is limitless possibilities. And that is what I envision this blog to be - a venue of free expression and where the mind is left to wander.
This blog is where I simulate my thoughts. I am quite shameless about sharing ideas to those willing to listen (or read). I am all for the sharing of thoughts. I believe that harboring thoughts leads to a bad case of intellectual constipation leading to insanity and suicide.
In any case, I have decided to reorient this blog towards one of my passions - critical discourse analysis. And for me not to digress out of this blog’s context, I’ll be focusing on my commentaries on social media.
About the Author
I am Alex Maximo, a 20-something pseudo-know-it-all who likes to think. This blog is an attempt in kindling discussions on the facets of Philippine society through critical discourse analysis and a bit of tech evangelism.
I am not a pure-blooded alumnus of some school having been to three different institutions for education. I earned my grade school diploma from Claret School of Quezon City. Then I transferred and finished high school at Ateneo de Manila. I graduated from the University of the Philippines with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Studies: Language. I’m currently taking up my Masters in the same discipline.
I worked as a corporate communications manager for a trading firm before ending up with TechFactors, Inc. - an e-learning company. There I served as content developer/editor (where I co-wrote books on desktop publishing, office productivity and Flash animation) before taking up a marketing position and finally serving as a product development officer.
I left the company with plans of devoting more time to my graduate studies. I then took up a teaching spot with UP, handling general education courses like College English and English for the Professions - a crazy move since low-ranking UP instructors usually starve.
On the side, I problog and serve as a web content development consultant. I also go around schools speaking about e-learning.
As for interests, I write and read. I love watching movies, especially when I’m with my girl. I shoot hoops every once in a while though I love the beautiful game of football over anything else. I play guitar for my side-project band - The MoXXX - which unfortunately, never had a real practice session or a gig.
