When you’re a gamer, I guess, you’re always a gamer. If you’ve ever abused a substance in your life, then you know how withdrawals go. And I just realized that I might just be a gaming addict. I’ve decided to ban gaming on my notebook since I got a scare the last time I tried to run a graphics-heavy application on Little Sidekick and got “alarming” temperature readings (Nag-iinit ang aking Little Sidekick kapag nilalaro). Sure, I have the default Windows games but I’m no solitaire or freecell addict.
I’m so restless that I can’t concentrate on doing productive things like checking my students’ papers or preparing lesson plans. I keep booting up my ol’ desktop PC and punch in some rounds killing Nazis since it still had Call of Duty 2 there. But I’m kind craving for some other games. And those games run beautifully on Little Sidekick. Excuse me while, I wipe some drool of my chin. This is scary. I think I’m getting rabid. A test of iron will though, as I haven’t even bothered popping out Little Sidekick’s DVD drive.

Just to clarify. Little Sidekick’s not a body part, you fiend. It’s the nickname I have for my notebook. I really can’t think of a catchy-ass name for it so I just called it that. It is my little sidekick anyway.
But yes, I thought I just did some damage to it when I saw a spike in the CPU temperature readout. I was getting pretty bored lately and one way I try to get away from things is to immerse myself in a computer game. My laptop can handle most modern games anyway so I tried to give it a spin. 3D apps, games in particular, does put a lot of stress on your CPU. I knew it was going to heat up but I just got alarmed at the 70 degree Celsius readout. Pretty high compared to the temperature readouts I usually get from my desktop.
I wrote a lengthy piece about it over at LifeSpy.
(Im)morals of the story:
- Have your room air-conditioned
- Avoid using laptop sleeve cases, they can be heat traps
- Try customer support, you might chance upon a few nice and knowledgeable people
- Try not to mix business (blogging laptop) with pleasure (games)

Other meanies have taken cue from that annoying Taga Lipa Are worm from months back and now we have this Baguio Strawberry worm making its rounds and plaguing our PCs. If you ever got this message “I am still waiting for the strawberry coming from my Baguio! Pls.. Help!,” that means you’re buggered once again.
In any case, our good friend Leerz is happy to help you guys out with this killer utility. He’s made these bunch of removal tools to clean them buggers out. I think it uses the same engine used by his famed Taga Lipa Are removal tool.

I am Scrooge reborn. Yes, I can either be Ebenezer or McDuck without his millions. While I many not be a misanthropist, I am miserliness in flesh. And one of these days, it just might get me into trouble or in the very least, emotional (or physical) constipation.
I just “bought” me a laptop yesterday. It’s one of the must-get items in my list since I want to blog whenever I am, even when I’m hanging around my office waiting for some poor and hapless kids during my consultation hours.
Spending isn’t one of my best suits. While I fall on the opposite side being the miser that I am, I am just uncomfortable parting away with my money even if it’s for myself. I go paranoid thinking about the what-ifs. Maybe getting into some need with hardly enough cash in the past has made me even more paranoid. I just feel guilty whenever I withdraw from my account or take money out of my wallet.
