If you don’t get the word play on the title, I suggest you Google vintage David Bowie. And yes, the reference will be off since Ely did not play it left hand.
Anyway, I first heard about the Eraserhead’s reunion concert from Risha. At first I was a bit skeptical about it since I always thought that Raymund Marasigan will forever have a grudge on Ely. Well, after reading about it over at Philmusic, I admit I was a bit shocked. I never expected it coming. And I guess so did everyone else. And it has caused a lot of buzz.
One of the trade offs of working everyday and studying on the side is you miss out on a bit of culture. I’d have to admit that I haven’t listened to the radio in a long time (both AM and FM) so I know diddly-squat about who’s who in music industry. Sure I watch movies but hey, Incredible Hulk doesn’t really count for anything other than geek and pop culture.
So how about a bit of Broadway. Yup, risking another huge sum of money, me and Team Sugoi decided to pump some culture in our lives by watching the farewell run of Avenue Q in Makati last Friday. Uhm, so yeah, culture might be arguable since Avenue Q isn’t Les Miserables or Miss Saigon or even Cats for that matter. But hey, I’m going to take (and took) what’s there.
This is one of those WTF moments. You start browsing people’s Friendster profiles out of sheer boredom (and to satisfy scopophilic tendencies) and lo and behold you see… your guitar in a gig under the spotlights. Just like this one:
No doubt about it, it’s my guitar. I actually just lent it to a friend (the one wielding it in the pic) for maintenance since it’s just lying around gathering dust and whatnot. Told him he could practice with it if he wants. Didn’t imagine it to be in a gig before me.
The nearest to a gig I used it is for a company Christmas party, a couple of years back. Oh well. How pathetic it is when the guitar gets the spotlight over its (real) master.
I’m still in shock with the news. Rico has got to be one of my favorite local music personalities out there. And Rivermaya became a favorite ever since he took the reigns and led ‘Maya to transformations.
Likewise, no offense to the amazing talent that is the remainder of the group but ‘Maya without Rico is pretty much like pork adobo without the pork.
Hi! I'm Alex, a 20-something blogger. I'm finally reorienting this blog to focus more on my takes on the discourses of social media. But don't be shocked if I still get to post about the mundane, the asinine, and the trivial. Feel free to contact me.
