Forget experts. Forget doctorate degrees. Forget international recognition. Forget the Nobel Prize. Who needs to uphold some elite group of people as a bastions of knowledge? We have Wikipedia anyway.
This leads me to ask, is the Web 2.0 subliminally killing authority? Now I’m in a quandary. In my previous post, I was thinking that Barthes’ concept is not applicable to the Web. But aren’t we killing authority. In the larger scale that’s what the Web 2.0 is trying to do - to force the collaborative mass effort to be the source of knowledge over that one “expert.” However, don’t the ideas of collaboration and audience feedback acknowledge the existence of the Author?

It’s like teaching basketball to students without letting them hold the basketball. Or just by showing pictures of a basketball. No drills. No games. Not even a hoop to shoot at.
I’ve been affiliated with an ICT learning company here in the Philippines. And my tenure there has exposed me to the real world situation in terms of educating students the productive use of ICT.

This sedentary life is killing me. I want to go out and work at Starbucks or some place. And for that to happen, I need a laptop.
I’ll be just using it for typing, browsing, blogging, and a bit of photo manips here and there. I just want something with 512 MB of RAM (expandable). My budget range is 30-40k, 12 months 0% interest by credit card. Well, I’d really love it if I could get hold of a gaming laptop but with my budget, that’s a far cry.
Anyone who could recommend a brand or where to buy? I’d appreciate it.

So I spoke for St. Matthew’s College in Cainta, Rizal yesterday. My topic is built for the geek stuff - Learning Resources for the Internet Generation. “And boy, it was a blast. There were four different sessions for the different levels in high school. So I was speaking for a good part of the day. I kinda lost my voice at that. Haha.
Anyway, I was the only speaker to cover all four sessions. There were two others but one was just for the morning session and the other for the afternoon sessions. Speaking for the whole day takes a lot. Good thing I’ve been working out so I didn’t run out of juice and air.
