It’s not like I’m really keeping tab of the months since I’ve started teaching. But I’m counting down the months until I get my first salary from UP. It’s three agonizing months laboring without a cent coming in for the work you do. And it’s not like my expected pay’s large or anything. As I jokingly remark, my monthly salary from teaching is just my gasoline allowance when I was working corporate. Harhar.
In any case, it’s a month into the semester and I’m still adjusting to the routine. I’ve been battling rages of flu and sniffles. Keeping a quarantined life for the past five months really placed me away from the germs and allergens of the Commonwealth Avenue. In so many ways, it’s really a killer road. And it’s killing me. The road. The travel. The pollution. Aargh!
I’m still busy Money Crashing with Principle 3 to get myself a car.

Second weekend as a teacher and I’m bushed.
My schedule just got shuffled last Monday and instead of teaching an English 1 class, the department asked me to teach an English 30 instead. Supposedly, I’m better off with an English 30 since it’s business communication. I did that for two years including using all the latest trends in the workplace (IMs, intra-office e-mailing, Lotus Notes…) and I’m confident that I can handle the class. But the trade-off’s a class with freshies.
Some would have probably gone “Hallelujah!” with one less class filled with freshies but English 30’s a general education (GE) course filled with half-interested upperclassmen who are taking the course just to fulfill one lousy requirement. And I tell you, older upperclassmen who are catching up with their GE subjects spell bad news for any teacher. You’d just have to hope that these oldies are responsible enough but chances are, these were the ones who were too lazy to complete the GE requirements in their first two years of school. You can only pray it turns out otherwise.

I met with my class this afternoon and talking about people (or insects) that suddenly barge inside a Diliman classroom, I mentioned that student activists are included in the bunch. Well, I confessed that I was one back in my days as an undergraduate. Was.
While I have tried to live a life distant from the things that had me disillusioned, I find myself actually writing on my views on politics and society. Perhaps, it’s just I. Besides, I am, by training, a critical discourse analyst. And the theories I’ve learned and applied are rooted in the principles of Gramsci and Althusser.
Pedestrian Observer started this meme in efforts to rally bloggers for more socially relevant interchange of discourses particularly on the senseless political violence that plagues our society. As I obliged Nick’s nudge on posting something about Dimasidsing, I felt compelled to participate in this call.
Yes. Even as a petty-bourgeois blogger and educator, I have a responsibility to freedom and democracy.

Other meanies have taken cue from that annoying Taga Lipa Are worm from months back and now we have this Baguio Strawberry worm making its rounds and plaguing our PCs. If you ever got this message “I am still waiting for the strawberry coming from my Baguio! Pls.. Help!,” that means you’re buggered once again.
In any case, our good friend Leerz is happy to help you guys out with this killer utility. He’s made these bunch of removal tools to clean them buggers out. I think it uses the same engine used by his famed Taga Lipa Are removal tool.
