Never disturb me in my sleep

Alex @ March 30, 2007 | | Personal | Comments (11)

Well, except if it’s my girlfriend giving me a cuddle. And in that case, it’s not classified as “disturbing.”

But otherwise, no one disturbs my sleep. Ever heard of the Pinoy proverb “Magbiro ka sa lasing, huwag lang sa bagong gising?” (Play jokes on a drunk not with someone who just woke up.) That holds very true to me. To quote, Samuel L. Jackson’s character in Pulp Fiction, whenever my sleep gets disturbed, “I’m a mushroom cloud laying motherf*cker. I’m superfly TNT. I’m the Guns of the Navarone.”

I’m a sleep freak. I love my seven hours of sleep undisturbed. The problem with me is that whenever I get woken up from my sleep, it takes me hours to get back to it.

But last night some freak tried to mess with me.

For some reason, I don’t feel the campaign vibe

Alex @ March 26, 2007 | | Politics and Society | Comments (4)

It’s been a long while since I watched TV (local or otherwise). And I’ve been practically living as a hermit being a home-based worker. So those two practically are the reasons why I don’t feel the campaign vibe.

But it’s weird. I remember that at least we used to have flyers and leaflets stuck in between our home’s gate grills. The only paper stuck there that I weed out practically every morning is from Pizza Hut, no fancy flyers with Chiz’s smug face, or whoever’s running for positions here in QC. Oh yeah, and no jeeps with loudspeakers doing its rounds too.

So where are the campaign materials now? TV spots? YouTube? Heck even the walls seem to a lot cleaner now. Is that the case everywhere else?

Did the COMELEC ban those methods of campaigning? And how about vote buying? That’s an easy way to get some money. Hehehe…

My favorite quotes from Almost Famous

Alex @ March 25, 2007 | | Entertainment | Comments (2)

Almost Famous

Cameron Crowe’s Almost Famous goes down as one of my all-time favorite movies. I live for movie quotes and perhaps, second to Kevin Smith movies, Almost Famous has chockfull of my most favorite lines. And here they are:

  • Russell Hammond: I am a golden god!
  • Lester Bangs: The only true currency in this bankrupt world… is what you share with someone else when you’re uncool.
  • Lester Bangs: My advice to you. I know you think those guys are your friends. You wanna be a true friend to them? Be honest, and unmerciful.
  • Lester Bangs: I’m always home. I’m uncool.
  • Russell Hammond: And you can tell Rolling Stone magazine that my last words were… I’m on drugs!
  • Jeff Bebe: Yeah, come back here! I’m incendiary, too, man!
  • Jeff Bebe: Some people have a hard time explaining rock ‘n’ roll. I don’t think anyone can really explain rock ‘n’ roll. Except Pete Townshend, but that’s okay. Rock ‘n’ roll is a lifestyle and a way of thinking… and it’s not about money and popularity. Although, some money would be nice. But it’s a voice that says, “Here I am… and f*ck you if you can’t understand me.” And one of these people is gonna save the world. And that means that rock ‘n’ roll can save the world… all of us together. And the chicks are great. But what it all comes down to is that thing. The indefinable thing when people catch something in your music.
  • Jeff Bebe: It’s okay! I’m easy to forget! Just leave me behind! I’m only the f*cking lead singer!

Oh yeah, and that bus scene where Tiny Dancer played? That was classic.

Done with my paper!

Alex @ March 24, 2007 | | Education, Personal | Comments (6)

Hahaha! Take that you term paper, you!

After three days of toil, I finally have a term paper to hand in before my professor gives me a grade of “Incomplete.” I still have to proofread it (unlike this trashy blog :p) three more times but at least the writing’s done. To give you an idea of what’s it about, it’s on blogging, specifically, a cursory look on the Pinoy blogosphere and possible subjects a critical discourse analysis.

I don’t want to post the paper online since it may as well be my masters thesis proposal (and I still have yet to get my professor’s opinion/grade before I pursue it full-blown). But top give you a glimpse I’m posting a couple of paragraphs from the conclusions.

Sem’s done! Well, not yet…

Alex @ March 22, 2007 | | Education, Personal | Comments (2)

We had our final class yesterday for my colloquium class. And it’s another semester drawn to a close. I just finished one and a half years in my stay as an MA student. But given my pace of one subject a sem (given that I was working full-time), I still have two years’ worth of coursework to contend with.

I don’t feel like taking classes this summer. I’m going the practical route in working my ass off just to save just a bit more (it’d take me three months before I get my first paycheck when I start in June).

Well, I still have an April 1 deadline for my final paper but at least I’ve got eight more days to finish that one. And I’d have the weekend free to finish everything. So why the heck am I writing on my blog? Arrgh!
